SUMMARY:Lunchtime talk: The Raw Materials Situation in Neighbouring European Countries
DESCRIPTION:Online discussion \nLunchtime talk: The Raw Materials Situation in Neighbouring European Countries \nBosnia and Herzegovina\, Serbia\, Georgia\, Armenia \nAs it strives for greater independence from China\, the EU is looking for new sources of raw materials that are needed for the decarbonisation. In this context\, neighbouring European countries come more into focus. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia have recently experienced a boom in new mining projects with strong European involvement.  In Armenia and Georgia\, environmental destruction and human rights violations have been occurring in the mining context for several years. With the exception of Armenia\, the four countries presented here are EU accession candidates that lack stable rule-of-law institutions and therefore lack the prerequisites for compliance with minimum social and environmental standards for potential mining projects. \nOur brochure on the situation in these four countries was published in July. Together with you and the authors\, we would like to gain a deeper insight into the different countries in an online lunchtime talk and discuss the consequences of these findings for German and EU raw materials policy. \nWith: \n\nJohanna Sydow\, Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung\nKety Gujaraidze\, Green Alternative Georgia\, Tbilisi\nArtur Grigoryan\, Transparency International Anticorruption Centre\, Yerivan\nMajda Ibraković\, Eko Forum Zenica\nPredrag Momčilović\, Centre for Green Politics\, Belgrade\n\nIn English\, no interpretation \nContact:\nAnnette Kraus\nInternational Environmental and Climate Policy\nkraus@boell.de \n» Online participation in ZOOM \nThe access information will be sent to you by email 24 hours and then 2 hours prior to the event.\nYou can use either the Zoom Client software or the app. If you are using either the Chrome or Edge browsers you will be able to participate directly via the access link.
